The Cowboys officially play for OBJ.

Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Cowboys executive Stephen Jones clarified that his team will indeed try to put a blue star on Odell Beckham Jr.’s helmet.

“Well, first of all, we’ve always emphasized here that player acquisition is 365 days a year,” Jones said. “Obviously, we played against Odell most of his career when he was with the Giants and he’s one of those guys, he can hurt you and I know he made a lot of big plays against us. And he’s a free agent out there and definitely a guy you have to look up to in terms of how he can make our team better. Obviously, what he did for the Rams last year and their Super Bowl run, it was huge and coming into the game and looking like he was going to have an MVP-type performance, and then he has the unfortunate injury.

“But, of course, we are always open to making our team better. Having a guy like Odell Beckham if he recovers from his knee, which he appears to have, is a great way to make your team better. So it is natural that we would have interest. And of course, like any free agent, he can go anywhere in terms of All 32. But we want to make our compelling case. And of course at the end of the day it’s all about business. So we’ll just roll up our sleeves and see if Odell has a chance to put a star on his helmet.”

The comments suggest that efforts to sign Beckham haven’t really taken off. Given Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer’s report on Sunday that Beckham expects to be cleared this week, it’s probably time to start pursuing OBJ. Before someone else beats them to it.

And it would make sense for the Cowboys to enter the chase. The last time he played for the Cowboys, in 2020 with the Browns, he scored three touchdowns. As a rookie, he made one of the most memorable catches in league history.
