RB Leipzig hope Christopher Nkunku price will delay Man Utd transfer pursuit until next summer – Paper Round

RB Leipzig hope Christopher Nkunku price will delay Man Utd transfer pursuit until next summer – Paper Round

The price of Nkunku

RB Leipzig value Christopher Nkunku at £100m, independent reports, with a fee likely to see the 24-year-old French striker stay at the club this summer. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the striker, while Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested. With Liverpool on the verge of beating United at the signature of Darwin Nunezthe latter would see Nkunku as a feasible alternative, but the club are unlikely to spend £100m and could return for the player next summer.

Paper Round’s point of view: There’s always a premium when United are interested, it seems, while the £85million Liverpool are set to spend on Nunez could also be a game-changing total for the summer. Of course City £51million on Erling Haaland is an anomaly, and one that leaves other clubs spending more on players below the Norwegian in the world-class pecking order.

Excess of spades compared to Barça’s requirements

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has told Gerard Pique he is no longer needed at the club, according to Sport in Spain. The newspaper claim that Pique’s physical issues and his ‘unprofessional conduct off the pitch’ are behind Xavi’s decision, with the defender’s business interests away from football being a factor. Pique has been at Barcelona since joining Manchester United in 2008 and has made 606 appearances for the club.

Paper Round’s point of view: Pique may feel he has more to give, especially as he played the majority of Barcelona’s games last season, but it’s clear Xavi wants to look to the future. Whether they can afford the list of names they are linked to is another matter, but Sport have mentioned Jules Kounde as a possible replacement, although Barca aren’t the only ones who want the Sevilla centre-back.

Kenyon face Everton offer

Former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon leads a consortium exploring the possibility of buying Everton, telegraph reports. Talks are at an early stage, with current owner Farhad Moshiri valuing Everton at over £500million. According the mirrorfour parties are considering a takeover.

Paper Round’s point of view: Most (all?) Everton fans would welcome the change, but as always with new ownership, there is always a period of uncertainty, with the main issue being financial backing. It looks like it might be slow, or at the very least, might rumble for a while compared to Chelsea’s takeover speed.

Milan will rival Arsenal for Asensio

AC Milan are interested in Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, Mail reports, with Arsenal also linked with the 26-year-old Spaniard. Asensio is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Real, and the Champions League winners could be looking to capitalize on the possibility of securing a transfer fee for the player.

Paper Round’s point of view: If AC ‘really get in the running’ it may be difficult for Arsenal to win over Asensio given the Italian champions have a Champions League campaign to look forward to. Let’s see, because these are just rumors at this point anyway.
