World Cup hosts Qatar were humbled by Ecuador in their tournament opener on Sunday as Ener Valencia’s brace earned Gustavo Alfaro’s side a 2-0 win. “Credit goes to the players because of their attitude, because of their commitment, because of their form, because of their intentions,” Ecuador coach Gustavo Alfaro said after the match. “Because we suffered a blow at the start of the game when they disallowed the goal for offside.
