Pierre Gasly says he will consider leaving the Red Bull team when his AlphaTauri contract expires at the end of the 2023 season.

Gasly, 26, has been open about aiming for a return to Red Bull since being dropped by World Championship contenders midway through the 2019 season.

However, with reigning world champion Max Verstappen linked to a long-term deal, Red Bull’s announcement earlier this week of a two-year contract extension for Sergio Perez means both seats are filled until now. at the end of the 2024 campaign.

While Gasly says he will speak with team adviser Helmut Marko, it looks like an attractive offer from elsewhere could end his nearly decade-long relationship with Red Bull, particularly with AlphaTauri who retreated to midfield in the early stages of this season.

“At the moment, of course, beyond 2023 I’m considering all options, because I don’t have anything beyond that,” Gasly said on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s Azerbaijan GP in Baku.

“So for now it’s, we’ll see. These are things we have to discuss with Helmut. Obviously they want to keep me, and they want to keep me in the program. But as I say, we have to see how do you make it work, and only normal conversations are going on.”

Perez’s new contract was announced after the Mexican punctuated a strong start to the 2022 season with his first win of the campaign at Monaco.

The result saw Perez within 15 points of team-mate and world championship leader Verstappen, potentially leaving Red Bull with tough decisions to make in the races ahead.

Gasly, who was initially replaced at Red Bull by Alex Albon before Perez took over the seat for the 2021 season, admitted he understands why the team extended the Mexican’s contract.

“To me, it makes sense,” Gasly said. “It’s not like it’s a surprise because I’m a very objective person. And based on what they expect from the second driver, Perez ticks all the boxes.

“He’s having an amazing season. He’s been doing very well this season. He’s quick, financially backed, good experience and a good fit for the team. So it’s not like it’s a surprise for me. .

“But obviously, on the other hand, the impact that it has on my career and with the ambitions that I have is obviously affected. So that’s what we’re discussing right now with Helmut, to obviously find that what’s best for all of us, and how do we move forward from there.”
