Nick Saban updates the injury status of Alabama’s Jahmir Gibbs, Eli Ricks

Nick Saban said Alabama running back Jahmir Gibbs “twisted his ankle,” which is why Gibbs didn’t touch the ball in the second half of Saturday’s game at Ole Miss.

It’s unclear when Gibbs suffered the injury, but his final touchdown came in the second quarter. He finished with six carries for three yards and one catch for five yards.

Jess McClellan got most of Alabama’s running back snaps in the second half, finishing the game with 84 yards on 19 carries and one catch for one yard. Backup Roydell Williams added two runs for 13 yards.

Saban did not comment further on the severity of Gibbs’ injury or his status for Alabama’s game next Saturday against Austin Peay. Gibbs was on the sideline in the second half with black tape on his left ankle.

Starting cornerback Eli Ricks was injured on the first play of Alabama’s 30-24 win at Oxford. He took off his helmet trying to make a tackle on Jonathan Mingo’s 20-yard catch and later went to the locker room. Ricks did not return, with Terion Arnold playing the rest of the game in his place.

“Ellie Ricks is fine,” Saban said. “I think he has a head problem. We haven’t tested him yet from a concussion protocol standpoint. But I saw him in the locker room. He’s fine.”

Outside linebacker Will Anderson also briefly left the game on Ole Miss’ second-to-last possession in the fourth quarter. He was hit on a second-down play where he was on the field, favoring his right arm or shoulder. Anderson stayed in the game for Ole Miss’ third-down play, before leaving on a fourth-down play, which was a Dallas Turner sack.

Anderson, who went down in apparent pain at one point on the sideline, went to the medical tent with team doctor Lyle Cain but later returned for the Rebels’ final possession.
