Lakers vs. Kings Final Score: 120-114 Lakers fall to fourth place
The Lakers Finally played a sub-.500 team on Friday and still lost 120-114 against the Kings. between More players are missing the gameA protest bubble outside the stadium, and a Four-game losing streakLos Angeles found a way to break away in the fourth.
Battling an illness that ruled him out of the game, Anthony Davis showed up at the Crypto.com Arena with his nose clearly visible under bright red weather. Although you don’t see much impact on his game; He started with a great assist to Lonnie Skye Walker IV, got into the stands to steal a pass and blocked a chase-down on Harrison Barnes. The Lakers still had their typical first-quarter shooting slump, but against a weaker opponent, they were able to overcome them and get out of the first, even at 23.
It’s no secret that the third quarter has been a challenge for Lakeshaw this season, and Friday night was no different. The quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams exchanging leads with neither team taking control. Midway through the fourth, with De’Aaron Fox on the bench, the Lakers were able to take a four-point lead but couldn’t extend it. They survived the final minute and led by one entering the fourth.
In the final quarter, with Anthony Davis taking a final rest, the Lakers found a combination of Russell Westbrook and Wenien Gabriel that connected on a couple of baskets. Wenien went 4/4 from the field and finished the night with eight points. Russ mainly ran the point, but Reaves was bringing the ball upcourt and creating shots for himself. Once Anthony Davis returned, it was a one-possession game and stayed that way until De’Aaron Fox started the game for the Kings with four minutes left in the game. He finished the night with 32 and put the Lakers out of their misery with a turnaround floater on Austin Reaves with 0:32 left.
Look on the bright side
The team is 2-10. I realize that positivity may seem counterintuitive at this point, but I have a few things that Laker Nation should be happy about.
- Anthony Davis has been an Iron Man this season. He has dealt with lower back injuries, illness and back-to-back games. He showed up and played hard. Sans LeBron, he put the Lakers on his back and finished the night with 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist, this team desperately needs him to be the leader.
- The Lakers are known for finding gems in the draft. 27 pick Kyle Kuzma, undrafted Austin Reeves and now Max Christie. The second-round draft pick has been getting an increased role of late and is looking good. On Friday, Max had 7 points and 4 rebounds. If he continues to play well and earns a rotation spot on this team, it will be another win for the Lakers’ scouting department.
The Lakers literally want to win against Sunday Brooklyn Nets. They will play their Eastern Conference opponent in Los Angeles at 6:30 p.m., looking for a second straight win.
