Keke Palmer announces pregnancy in ‘SNL’ monologue
“People have said in my comments, ‘Kake has a baby,’ ‘Kake is pregnant,’ and I want to set the record straight,” Palmer said in her opening monologue. “I am!”
Palmer broke the big news by revealing her baby bump during her animated and hysterical monologue about her big year starring in “No” and being nominated for an Academy Award — which she joked didn’t actually happen.
“I was trying so hard to keep it down ’cause I got a lot,” she said. “You know, people keep coming up to me, ‘Congratulations,’ and I’m like, ‘Wow, can you stop? I’ve got a wine sponsorship on the line.”
All jokes aside, Palmer can’t contain his excitement.
“But it’s honestly the biggest blessing, and I’m so excited,” she said. “Guys, I’m going to be a mom.”
He closed on a reflective note.
“When I first got into comedy, and I dreamed of standing on this stage, I asked myself, ‘Who the hell are you going to be?,'” she said. “Will you be like Maya Rudolph? Eddie Murphy? A Kristen Wiig-type?’ And now I can tell you who I am: baby, I’m KK Palmer.”
Also in monologue, Palmer returned to acting in 2006’s “Akilah and the Bees.”
“It was a great experience. I had a lot of fun without Laurence Fishburne screaming,” she said.
In an opening sketch, Palmer was very playful, spoofing the soap opera network, being thrown into a wrestling position and thrown into furniture by Cecily Strong. It is revealed at the end that the sketch used stunt doubles. He poked fun at Drake in a sketch focusing on women — “United Tings of Aubrey” — who previously dated the singer. She later faked her pregnancy in an ultrasound sketch where her babies were pressing the driver’s door dash from the womb. He also appeared in a sketch exploring the origins of “Hello, Kitty” (with a surprise cameo by “Russian Doll” star Natasha Lyonne) and showed off his musical chops in a video extolling the virtues of “Big Boys” with SZA and rocked a choir. “O, Holy Night” in the sketch.
Palmer, 29, is expecting with boyfriend Darius Dalton, brother of “Safe” star Sarunas Jackson.
The show opened with a sketch about Herschel Walker and the run-off election target.
“My ex-wife says all I do is escape,” quips Kenan Thompson as Walker.
Asked about any of his past scandals, the clock ticks by for an hour with more Walker gaffes.
“I feel very confident in this build,” he said.
“Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update stars Kenan Thompson, Cicely Strong, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Igo Nodim, Bowen Young, Chloe Fineman, Punky Johnson, Andrew Dismukes and Michael Che and Colin Jost as hosts. The cast also includes James Austin Johnson, Sarah Sherman, Marcelo Hernandez, Molly Carney, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker.
