Former NC State player coach Dave Doeren was arrested for obstruction

the former NC State According to Wake County records, the football player was arrested this week and charged with assault and threatening to make contact with Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren.

The arrest stemmed from a tweet sent by Joseph Boletepelli, 22, a member of the 2018 and 2019 NC State football team, saying, “Imma him I promise. Dave Doren and the rest.”

The school did not release a statement but confirmed that Boletepelli was a member of the football program before transferring Maryland.

Boletepelli was also charged with resisting arrest, after investigators said he pulled away from officers who tried to handcuff him.

Boletepelli was arrested in Raleigh, North Carolina, and according to WRL’s report, investigators say he was seen on several occasions near Doreen’s workplace and sent numerous text messages threatening Doreen and other employees. According to court documents obtained by the News and Observer, Boletepelli acted in a manner that “would cause a reasonable person to fear death, bodily injury…or the safety of the person’s immediate family to suffer substantial emotional distress.”

Boletepelli, a defensive lineman, has appeared in nine games over two seasons with the Wolfpack, making 13 tackles. He transferred to Maryland for the 2020 season and played five games in one start, according to the Terrapins’ website.

Boletepelli was a three-star prospect at Heritage High School in Raleigh, where he was coached by several former NC State greats, including Dewayne Washington and Torey Holt.

WRAL reported that Boletepelli was released Friday with an ankle monitoring system.
