Ellen Pompeo shares ‘lots of gratitude’ for Grey’s Anatomy fans
“I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you have shown me, Meredith Grey, and the show over 19 seasons!” Pompeo wrote, 53. “Through it all…none of it…would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are riders and you all make the ride so fun and iconic!!”
“I love you like crazy and admire you,” she added.
Pompeo Behind the series This season to pursue outside projects, including Hulu’s adaptation of the 2009 film an orphanwhich follows a harrowing adoption story in which a couple’s new daughter turns out to be a grown woman disguised as a child.
Meredith’s storyline (so far) ended with her character’s decision to leave Seattle for Boston, where she accepted a position with the Katherine Fox Foundation to research Alzheimer’s disease. There have been many more dramatic (and sad) departures in the series – and Meredith’s new job certainly opens the door for guest appearances.
Pompeo confirmed as much in the conclusion of his speech. “It’s not your first time on a rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit,” he wrote. “XoE with lots of love and immense gratitude 🙏🏼❤️”
Although Pompeo is one Gray’s Anchors since its premiere in 2005, the decision to scale back her role in the series this year wasn’t entirely unexpected — the actress has long been vocal about her efforts. Convinced ABC to finish the series.
In December 2021, she told Insider, “I was trying to focus on convincing everyone that this should be over. What is the story going to be?Are we going to tell the story?'”
