In the past year and a half alone, he has appeared as a minor cameo alongside Simu Liu in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Coming Home. More recently, he played his biggest role yet in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

With seven incredible projects under his belt over the past six years, Wong becomes an increasingly important part of what the MCU has planned. In the same way his duties as Sorcerer Supremehe takes on a more involved role with the Avengers alongside Bruce Banner and Carol Danvers.

Pretty much the only thing Wong has yet to do in the MCU appears in a live Disney+ broadcasteven though he already has ties to several major characters from this division in Phase 4. Now it looks like Marvel Studios is fixing that for Benedict Wong by bringing him into one of the most anticipated new streaming projects in the world. ‘year.

Wong returns to the MCU on Disney+

wonder published the first trailer for the next Disney + series She-Hulk: Lawyer as part of his Upfront 2022 presentation in New York. This came with the confirmation of the show’s cast, which even included the return of Benedict Wong as Sorcerer Supreme Wong.

The nine-episode series features a host of MCU veterans, including Mark Ruffalo as the Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong. The cast also includes Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

This will be Wong’s fourth live appearance in the MCU’s Phase 4 alone, following a key role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and short appearances in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Coming Home in 2021. It will also be his first role in an MCU Disney+ show.

Wong’s Direction of the MCU on Disney+

Although Wong might not be the first character fans think of in terms of potential She-Hulk cast members, it seems like an almost natural fit given where the character is in Phase 4 so far.

Shang Chi revealed that Wong had coached Tim Roth’s Abomination after defeating Emil Blonsky in one of Xialing’s Golden Daggers Club main event bouts, who won his ties to Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk at the end of that same film. Considering he has such close ties to both of these characters, his inclusion in this series shouldn’t be the shock many might expect.

The big question now is how exactly will he fit into a show that moves away from magic and to the more down-to-earth legal side of the MCU.

Marvel’s slate didn’t reveal how many episodes Wong will appear in, though he’ll most likely have interactions with the Abomination and Hulk when he first meets Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters. Whatever his role, the Sorcerer Supreme remains as important to the fabric of the MCU as anyone with ties to nearly four of the franchise’s 15 confirmed releases since 2021.

She-Hulk: Lawyer will debut on Disney+ August 17.
