‘Days of Our Lives’ star John Aniston has died at the age of 89

NEW YORK (AP) – John Aniston, the Emmy-winning star of the daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and Jennifer Aniston’s father, has died at age 89.

The actor’s daughter posted a tribute to him on Instagram Monday morning, announcing that he died on Friday, Veterans Day. John Aniston served in the US Navy.

“Sweet daddy…John Anthony Aniston,” Jennifer Aniston wrote. “You were one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known. I’m so thankful you flew to heaven peacefully — and without pain. And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. This number will forever mean more to me.”

John Aniston’s acting credits include “Search for Tomorrow,” “The West Wing” and “Gilmore Girls.” But he was best known for his long-running role on “Days of Our Lives” as family patriarch Victor Kyriakis, a former drug lord who founded the powerful Titan Industries.

In 2017, his work on “Our Lives” earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Earlier this year, he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Emmy, with Jennifer Aniston honoring him via video.

“This is not only an opportunity to pay tribute to a true icon in the world of daytime television, but also to recognize the lifetime achievement of a great and respected actor who also happens to be my father,” Jennifer Aniston said during “John Aniston for more than half a century.” He has been consistently working on television.

John Aniston was born Yannis Anastsakis in Crete, Greece and moved to Pennsylvania with his family when he was a child. A theater major at Pennsylvania State University, he began his professional acting career in the 1960s with early roles in “Combat!,” “I Spy” and “The Virginia.”

Aniston was married twice, most recently to Sherry Rooney. She had two children, Jennifer and Alexander Aniston, and a stepson, John Mellick.
