Crunchyroll is bringing a new Shinkai movie to the US in 2023


Crunchyroll acquired the worldwide distribution and marketing rights (excluding Asia) of TOHO, for the anime author Makoto Shinkaiupcoming animated feature film, Suzume no Tojimari (still a working title). The deal was finalized at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and brokered by Crunchyroll Chief Content Officer Asa Suehira, Wild Bunch International CEO Vincent Maraval and TOHO’s Akihiro Takeda. Rights are managed worldwide by TOHO (excluding South Korea and India).

Suzume no Tojimari will debut in Japan on November 11 this year and will be distributed in all major territories from early 2023. In North America, Crunchyroll is the sole distributor. In Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East and parts of Europe, the film will be distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. In French-speaking and German-speaking Europe, the film will be co-distributed by Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International.
