100 mph chase resulted in deadly crash northwest of Mitchell

Feb. 12—MITCHELL — Davison County regulation enforcement mentioned they’ve accomplished an investigation from a chase and deadly crash that occurred Sunday, Feb. 5.

Based on the Davison County Sheriff’s Workplace, a single-vehicle rollover crash on the intersection of 245th Avenue and 402nd Avenue was the results of a 100 mph chase. The sheriff’s workplace responded to the scene at about 1:56 p.m.

Authorities say a passenger within the car concerned, a 2009 Kia Spectra, was being looked for questioning by the Mitchell Police Division for an alleged crime. Mitchell police discovered the car at 11:14 a.m. close to Lake Mitchell. When an officer tried to cease the car, it allegedly fled and a pursuit was finally terminated.

The car was situated touring west on 245th Avenue by the South Dakota Freeway Patrol about two-and-a-half hours later. Authorities say a visitors cease was initiated and the Kia allegedly elevated to 100 mph.

The motive force of the car misplaced management and it rolled within the ditch. David VanWagner, the 42-year-old driver, was partially ejected and sustained deadly accidents. The passenger, who officers didn’t identify, tried to run from the scene however was caught by regulation enforcement. That individual sustained minor accidents.

The Davison County Sheriff’s Workplace launched the report at 2 p.m. Friday.
